Nas is my Hero

Usually when I work, I stream some stations on winamp to help me zone in, get creative and concentrate. The other night, I was streaming Hot 108 Jamz and they played a new Nas song that I thought was pretty damn good.

The last album that Nas released really wasn’t too great so I almost gave up on him. It just seems like nobody can bring Hip Hop like it used to be in the 90′s…but for some reason, this song almost reminds me of his old style and the beat is banging much ass.

Since then, I can’t get the song out of my head. So now, I am on a mission as I do with every new song that I like. That mission is to run it into the ground by playing it over and over until I am sick of it. That’s the cool hillbilly way to do things.

I just burnt the song on disc that I will listen to while I’m crusing…but here is the video and lyrics in case anyone else is interested in wearing it out too.

Nas (Feat. Keri Hilson) – Hero

Chain gleaming
Switching lanes
Two-seating
Hate him or love him
For the same reason
Can’t leave it
The games needs him
Plus the people need someone to believe in
So in God’s Son we trust
‘Cause they know I’m gonna give ‘em what they want
They looking for . . . a hero
I guess that makes me . . . a hero

Another chapter of the cleanest rapper
Distinguished gentlemen
Crooks and castle on his back
Maybach-er, exotic lady eye-catcher
Holla at’cha, call me the chiropractor
Working like Muay Thai class
Get perspire out ya
And of course I’ve been the boss since back when
Rocking D Boy, Fila, velour in 190 black Benz
Now they shut down the stores when I’m shopping
Used to be train robbing, face covered in stocking
I’m him

Chain gleaming
Switching lanes
Two-seating
Hate him or love him
For the same reason
Can’t leave it
The games needs him
Plus the people need someone to believe in
So in God’s Son we trust
‘Cause they know I’m gonna give ‘em what they want
They looking for . . . a hero
I guess that makes me . . . a hero

Rubber-grip-holder, reloader
Come at me I’ma rip your soliders in half
Silverback ape, nickle-plated mag
Young, rich, and flashy
Young, b!tch, I’m nasty
All black clothes til ice lay on me so classy
And every time I close my lids
I can still see the borough, I can still see the Bridge
I can still see the dreams that my niqqas ain’t never lived to see
Tell them angels open the door for me
From nine berettas and moving raw
To chilling in wine cellars
Sticks and humidors
That’s what I call mature
That’s what I call a g
That’s what I call a pimp
That’s what I call a gangsta
To the fullest, sh!t
I try to make more cream
By every September 14th, that’s my dream
So I can be more clean, as I grow yearly
I can see things more clearly
That’s why they fear me

Chain gleaming
Switching lanes
Two-seating
Hate him or love him
For the same reason
Can’t leave it
The games needs him
Plus the people need someone to believe in
So in God’s Son we trust
‘Cause they know I’m gonna give ‘em what they want
They looking for . . . a hero
I guess that makes me . . . a hero

This universal apartheid
I’m hog-tied, the corporate side
Blocking y’all from going to stores and buying it
First L.A. and Doug Morris was riding wit it
But Newsweek article startled big wigs
They said, Nas, why is he trying it?
My lawyers only see the Billboard charts as winning
Forgetting – Nas the only true rebel since the beginning
Still in musical prison, in jail for the flow
Try telling Bob Dylan, Bruce, or Billy Joel
They can’t sing what’s in their soul
So untitled it is
I never change nothin’
But people remember this
If Nas can’t say it, think about these talented kids
With new ideas being told what they can and can’t spit
I can’t sit and watch it
So, sh!t, I’ma drop it
Like it or not
You ain’t gotta cop it
I’m a hustler in the studio
Cups of Don Julio
No matter what the CD called
I’m unbeatable, y’all

190 North Monticello Indiana

A few months ago, 190 north came out to Monticello Indiana and got some footage on how exciting my home town can be.

190 north is a program focusing on Chicago entertainment, trends, and style appears on WLS-TV ABC…since we are just a few hours away from Chicago, they decided that Monticello is the place to be if you want to get away for a bit. I guess to someone that hasn’t been here, it would be a cool place to visit. But when you’ve lived here for 18+ years…it all becomes a seen-it, worked-there, done-it kind of thing.

Anyway, here is the spot that aired about a week ago. Prepared to be amazed.

What tha…? Did you see those old-schoolers on that metal water slide going right into the lake?! I wonder how many injuries that provided?

Hot, Sweaty and Hot

The hot summer is finally here. So far, we’ve only had one 90 degree day this year. Its finally getting hot out now with possible highs in the low 90′s today. Whew! The cicadas are chirping real loud and the constant smell of fresh cut grass is in the air.

I remember when I was a kid, I could go outside and play all day in the sweltering heat. Now, I have hard time trying to enjoy it anymore. Anything I do creates an uncomfortable sweat to where its more annoying than anything. I hate when every body part sticks to each other it feels like you are constantly wet.

Here in Indiana, there’s hardly ever dry heat…its more sticky and thick than anything. Last night was so hot that you could break a sweat just blinking an eyelid. The gnats are a pain too. There are so many competing with the mosquitoes seeing who can buzz in your ear the most. Just swatting at the bugs generates a stinky sweat. Thankfully we have AC like the good Mother Nature intended.

For some reason the heat made me have a quick flash-back of when I used to work at Indiana Beach. I remember standing in the arcade and pumping my hard earned money into competitive video games like Street Fighter II and Killer Instinct. Being freshly sun burnt, I would be hotter than ever and my only worry was who I was going to play next and do later that night.

Just as all good things coming to an end, Summer will be over soon. Next thing you know, school will be starting, the leaves will be falling and the Colts will be taking to the field for the big win.

Hot
days like this make me welcome Autumn with open arms…but I know once Winter sets in, I will yearn for these hot and sticky days once more.
