Streaming Music to Xbox
Probably old news to some but may be handy if you are looking to stream Shoutcast music stations to your Xbox 360. I’ve done this in the past and had to jump through a few hoops, but now with the latest version of TwonkyMedia, it does all the work for you. Its just awesome to be able to stream my favorite tunes and play games at the same time.
Last night, I was playing Call Of Duty: World At War and streaming a live mix show from Cerritos All Stars…it was pretty awesome.
You will need 5 things before streaming music to your Xbox.{sidebar id=1}
1 – Fast Internet
2 – Networked Computer
3 – Networked Xbox 360
4 – TwonkyMedia (download)
Here are the easy steps that you need to take to get everything going.
1 – Download and install TwonkyMedia on your PC. After you have installed, open up the program.
2 – Click the “Internet Radio” link and it will give you a Shoutcast option. Check the Shoutcast option along with all the genres that you want to show up. After you have done that click to save settings. *Be sure to click the restart server link so that all the changes are applied.
3 – Fire up your Xbox 360 and…actually, here are some images that walk you through the process: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stephbu/sets/1637080/ (note that those screenshots are from the previous Xbox 360 menu system). Really what you need is for your Xbox to find your PC on your network. The TwonkyMedia will be recognized after it scans.
4 – Once that is set up, browse to music and view the play lists. There should now be a bunch of Shoutcast stations listed.
5 – Pick a station that you would like to stream and it should start playing live music.
6 – With the music streaming to your Xbox 360, you can now back out of the music screen and fire up your game of choice. It takes some tweaking to get the volume set to where you can here the game sound effects as well as the music. You can easy do this by pushing the Xbox button on your controller, go over to the music screen and choose the speaker icon.
Keep in mind that TwonkyMedia also allows for streaming MP3′s and images. You will just have to use the TwonkyMedia control panel to build that library before viewing it on your Xbox.
