Mike Prangley Leaves WLFI Lafayette Indiana

1807688808_c12e68e4ec_oJust got word that Mike Prangley of WLFI is leaving and moving to Florida! Mike is probably one of the most ambitious meteorologist that I have grown to know with his constant blog updates  and thrist for snow here in Indiana.

Here is the press release:

Mike Prangley and his family will be moving out of state to pursue a career advancement for his wife.

Prangley said, “This is an unexpected move. I could not have asked for a better TV station to work for over the last ten years. But, this is a great opportunity for my family.”

WLFI-TV Station Manager Tom Combs said, “We thank Mike for his many years of service to the station and the community. We wish Mike and his family all the best.”

WLFI-TV News Director Chris Morisse said, “We will miss Mike’s passion for forecasting and making our community a better place. He has worked around the clock to keep us alert and safe. Also, Mike has volunteered many hours for community events and school talks.”

WLFI-TV is in the process of interviewing qualified broadcast meteorologists who share the station’s commitment to community service.

The entire  “PrangGang” is sadden to here this news, but we know that he will just be on the other side of the rainbow.  Good luck to whatever you do in the future Mike and don’t forget about us!

See Discovery Space Shuttle Tonight

3279114061_98f4ebbb46As the Space Shuttle Discovery pursues the International Space Station, parts of North America and Europe will have a chance to see the double flyby Monday night.

The shuttle is carrying a segment of the space station’s main support truss. Eight more flights are needed to complete the truss, which will be 335 feet long. The astronauts will also deliver the final set of solar panels, which will double the power available for scientific research.

I’ve been trying to track it using this link ( http://spaceweather.com/flybys/?PHPSESSID=falftfa1jpq15caf8rojdud7u7 ) but the page just won’t load or I get an error: The satellite tracker is temporarily overloaded by an avalanche of visitors.

We are unable to compute your flybys at this time, but if you return in an hour or so, you should find the system working normally. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Anyway, if you live in Indiana, start looking up at around 8:30ish…and my best guess is that it will be coming from the west. The thing to look for is a super bright start moving at a fast rate and ending on the opposite side of the world.  Normally, the whole thing lasts about 30 seconds or so, so keep your eyes peeled!

Here is another cool tidbit about Discovery.

Indianapolis-based Endangered Species Chocolate says eight of their supreme dark chocolate “chimpanzee” bars were aboard NASA’s shuttle Discovery when it successfully launched over the weekend. One of the astronauts requested the sweet treats be packed for dessert. The crew members are installing the final set of power-generating solar arrays to the International Space Station.  “

I Can See The Light

There_is_light_at_the_end_of_the_tunnelToday, I am beginning to feel much better and less overwhelmed.  The past 2 months have just been crazy for me with work. It was just driving me up the wall.

For the rest of this week, I am working on finishing up a bunch of “emergency” projects. Hopefully after that, I will have some time to breathe.  The projects will still be coming in, but not to the complexity and huge demand as they are now.

The people that I am working with have seasonal businesses and now is the time to get things together before the warm weather hits and customers become interested in their products, etc.  Its like this every year, but because I took on several new jobs, it’s double quadruple the aggravation.

My thing is that I feel like I am loosing money by not doing this or that and hate to count it as a loss. Yeah, that is greedy as hell…but it just bugs me and my biggest fear is not to go broke.  If I can find some way to compensate for that without working, then that would be great…thats in a perfect world though.

Anyway, I have a feeling that things will start to clear up as I have shifted down a few gears.  I guess that over the next month with be experimental to see if we actually financially feel the effects of me not working.

Bubba Sparxxx – Deliverance

And now, the song of the week.  Thanks Guy!

[Chorus]

I’ve been travelin for some time (echo)

With my fishin pole and my bottle of shine (echo)

On these long dark dusty roads (echo)

Lookin there’s nowhere to go

I guess I gotta hide away, far away

Cause I gotta find a way, to find my way

I gotta hide away, far away

Cause I gotta find a way, to find my way

Ay-ay-ay ay-ay-ay aaay

Full Worm March Moon

Worm_moonWhat an amazing looking moon this morning!  In my research, I discovered that I was gazing at the Full Worm March Moon or Worm Moon.

Here is a cool little tidbit:

“ As the temperature begins to warm and the ground begins to thaw, earthworm casts appear, heralding the return of the robins. The more northern tribes knew this Moon as the Full Crow Moon, when the cawing of crows signaled the end of winter; or the Full Crust Moon, because the snow cover becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night. The Full Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees, is another variation. To the settlers, it was also known as the Lenten Moon, and was considered to be the last full Moon of winter. “

Last full moon of winter?!  I am all for that.  I have also heard the crows and after last night’s big rain, I counted about 10 earthworms slithering around…almost hold true to the statement about the moon above.
