| Indiana Weather Got Crappy |
| Saturday, 31 May 2008 | |
For almost the entire month of May, we have squeaked by with little to no servere weather in Indiana. Last night, we experienced our first and official server weather here in Indiana for the season of 2008. I was watching the radars, blogs and skies all day long anticipating a storm coming from the east. Because it was finally warm in the month of May, that had me concerned with the clouds moving in.The tornado watch was issued as the rain started coming down at about 3pm. I managed to head home from when there was a break in the clouds...I really don't like being here at work with I know bad weather is coming. My family and I scarfed down a quick dinner as the skies started to darken and the rain became heavier. My food wasn't settling right because I kept jumping up to check out the latest forecasts and announcements on the TV. Shortly after we finished eating, an severe thunderstorm warning kicked in for the counties the west of us and it was getting worse. At around 6pm, my wife and I made a quick decision to go over to our neighbor's house and hang out in their basement. We dragged the kids over across the street and settled in. My neighbor has satellite tv so there was no chance on watching news, etc because it just would not get a signal. Because of this, we resorted to listening to a local radio station for the rest of the night. We passed the time by playing darts, chit-chatting and eating snacks. I must say that we did feel really safe in the basement of that house. Without windows, its difficult to stare at the clouds and get all nervous about what's going on. We still kept the radio on and listened as surrounding counties were witnessing rotation in the clouds and getting hit harder than we were. ![]() The major storms finally cleared out of our area at around 9:30 pm so we decided to head back home. My poor daughter chose not to take a nap yesterday so she was cruising on fumes. Thankfully, my neighbor had two cats that provided her entertainment for the most part of the evening. From what I can tell is that we only got heavy rain in our area and were very lucky to not get the high winds and tornadoes that some other areas of Indiana witnessed. We are all thankful to wake up and see the sunshine today.
