The guys over at Forgotten Hope 2 have published a big ass news post featuring some of the upcoming maps.
Here is a quick rundown of the maps…
Operation Aberdeen – Oh yeah! Some of you may remember this one from Battlefield 1942. Tanks, tanks and more tanks makes for some armored fun.
Operation Hyacinth – A night map that features handheld flares and mannable spotlights. The spotlights will allow both attackers and defenders to use lighting to their advantage.
Operation Compass – A western desert map in Libya appears to be providing some serious choke points demanding strategy from players.
There are also some screen shots of some more models and a 20mm Flakvierling flak gun is introduced. I have a feeling that I will be spending some time in one of these taking down the plane whores.
At the time of writing this article, there is 22 Hours 4 Minutes 17 Seconds left before the release. Links and mirrors will be posted at that time.

What could be the best meteor display of the year will reach
its peak on the night of December 13th and 14th 2007.
Here is
what astronomers David Levy and Stephen Edberg have written of the annual Geminid
Meteor Shower: “If you have not seen a mighty Geminid fireball arcing
gracefully across an expanse of sky, then you have not seen a meteor.”
Generally
speaking, depending on your location, Gemini begins to come up above the
east-northeast horizon right around the time evening twilight is coming to an
end. So you might catch sight of a few early Geminids as soon as the sky gets
dark.
There is a
fair chance of perhaps catching sight of some “Earth-grazing”
meteors. Earth grazers are long, bright shooting stars that streak overhead
from a point near to even just below the horizon. Such meteors are so
distinctive because they follow long paths nearly parallel to our atmosphere.
The Geminids begin to appear noticeably more numerous in the
hours after 10 p.m. local time, because the shower’s radiant is already fairly
high in the eastern sky by then. The best views, however, come around 2 a.m.,
when their radiant point will be passing very nearly overhead.

Three new Halo 3 maps are on the way and should hit XBox live on December 11th 2007. The maps will cost
800 Microsoft Points or about $3.33 each. If you cannot afford to buy the maps right away, hold off until the Spring as they should become free to download.
" Obviously…we’d love to give the maps away for free to recognize our fans and all the great support they’ve shown us. But in the spring, they’ll be free. We’re happy we’re able to keep doing that because I have to imagine that some people would probably rather never make them available for free because you’re walking away from this cash cow, right? "
Here is a rundown of the new map line-up
Map #1: Standoff
" This is a map that takes place in Africa. It is a UNSC missile silo facility. The idea for this…is basically a small vehicle map — a ‘mini Blood Gulch’ where the two bases are facing each other and [the distance between them] is condensed, so you get a lot of good infantry action in the middle."
Map #2: Rat’s Nest
" We wanted to make another Big Team Battle map to help fill out our Big Team Battle [matchmaking] hopper. It’s good for anywhere between 6-16 people. Another thing we wanted to do is make an indoor vehicle map, which is something we don’t have in Halo 3. This is, thematically, based off of ‘Crow’s Nest’ from the single-player campaign, so you’ll see some similarities as far as look and feel. "
Map #3: Foundry
" Foundry is a map we built almost specifically for Forge. The high concept is we wanted to keep the structure of the map as simple as possible, while providing objects that people can use to actually build meaningful gameplay spaces. The default setup for this map is really built for smaller, 3-v-3 Slayer or Territory games. "

For all of you digital photo editing nuts out there, check this out…
A new method for image scaling and resizing called "Seam Carving" is starting to get popular with the big guys and there are already some early versions of software out. I just tried it out and it works perfectly.
This new method of image resizing looks for seams of pixels with the least energy or least contrasts both vertically and horizontally in the image and then uses this to enable resizing without losing important image content such as human subjects or other detail. This technique can be used for reducing and enlarging images as well as removing items from the image which are not wanted. The seam carving technique was developed by a soon to be rich guy named Dr Ariel Shamir and Shai Avidan of the Efi Arazi School of Computer Science.
One piece of software out there right now is called Resizor…and does exactly what the name says. Not only does it resize images, but it applies the new technique of seam carving…plus, its free. Another cool tool to try is called Rsizr. This actually shows you in real time what the image is doing, etc. I am sure that if you do a Google search on seam carving, more software and tools will start popping up.
I would almost bet that you can see the seam carving as an added feature in the future releases of Adobe Photoshop CS4 or other popular images editing programs.
