Fall Sets In

And just like that, it got cold. The past few days were almost 90 and I personally thought that it was kinda weird for October in Indiana. As of yesterday, the temperatures are starting to drop…this morning was really chilly and I had to dig out my coat.

I have always been a big fan of fall because of the colors that the changing leaves present. There is something about the air too. I guess that its from breathing in the hot and humid air from the Summer, my body has to get used to the cool, crisp air.

Although the following is geared more towards Winter, I always have this song in mind when I start to notice Fall:

Black Ice – Andre 3000 – Goodie Mob

" Friends, Romans, countrymen lend me you eardrums
it was a beautiful day off in the neighborhood
Yellows and greens and blues and browns
and greys and hues that ooze beneath dilapidated wood
Ain’t a thing could explain but what pertains
to cocaine & sustaining rain
See summer roll around niggas all about change
then they steady move them keys like bob james
Coz old man winter’s arrived
the temperature dives
November just died
December’s alive
thus it ain’t no typical ride
just individuals way to bring home the bacon when bacon was all gone
making it our own taking me all wrong
We’ve all indulged in the bulge of those no-nos
no you ain’t solo, there’s even lower levels you can go
take sun people put them in the snow
"

" Autumn is one of the four temperate seasons. Autumn marks the transition from summer into winter. In the northern hemisphere, the start of autumn is generally considered to be around September and in the southern hemisphere, its beginning is considered to be around March. There exists however a number of different definitions of autumn some of which are based on the months of the year while others are based on the equinox and solstice.

Around this time, deciduous trees shed their leaves, with the leaves changing to a reddish or brownish hue before falling. Such coloured leaves have come to be colloquially called "fall foliage". In the temperate zones, autumn is the season during which most crops are harvested, and deciduous trees lose their leaves. It is also the season during which days get shorter and cooler, the nights get longer, and precipitation gradually increases (in some parts of the world).

The word ‘autumn’ is derived from the French word "automne", and became popular in usage for the season since the 16th century. The North American name for the season, ‘fall’, probably derived as a contraction of the phrase "fall of the leaves", and since became used interchangeably. "

Bro-In-Law Hits The Web

My bro-in-law is
moving up in the web world with a the new BMX company that he is working with. I was just recently doing a google search because I like to see where websites come up that I make (wink, wink)…and noticed his face popping up a few times here and there.

What’s cool is there is a very recent video of Alienation BMX at Interbike. This show just ended a few days ago and Vital BMX already has a video show.

See More BMX Videos at VitalBMX.com

See that stuff in the background?
That’s an image that I designed for the booth that consists of some graffiti type of art and some other cool stuff.
Stay tuned for more photos on that because I am quite proud of it.

Anyway here is another spot that I also noticed: Alienation – who is behind it?

Congrats you Internet Whore!

The Pumpkin King

The Halloween decorations are up. As promised, I went with the pumpkin theme and constructed a 10 foot tall Pumpkin King.

For inspiration, I used an old ghoul prop from last year. I removed the monster mask and mounted a huge plastic pumpkin head on top…that added about 2.5 more feet to it. Also, I modified the arms a bit to give them a unique look with green monster hand gloves. I then hung some vines around the arms along with some orange christmas lights.

I didn’t go all out this year but the house looks pretty good all light up at night. Just a warm glow of orange can be seen from blocks away.

Be sure to check out the Halloween photo gallery as I will be adding more to it soon: PhotoBrow Halloween Gallery

BF Pirates – Aye Captain!

The BF2 Mod called BF Pirates has been released and I got a chance to give it a run. I only had about 45 minutes to check it out but I must say that I was impressed!

For those of you that have played the first Battlefield Pirates mod for BF1942, you can appreciate the changes and updates. Since this new mod runs on the Battlefield 2 engine, there are some really awesome features and animations.

" Battlefield Pirates 2 is a full conversion mod for Battlefield 2. The game pits 2 two rivaling crews, the Undead and the Peglegs, in a vicious battle for control of the Caribbean and all its booty. Brace yourself for a fun-filled adventure on the high seas! "

Here are a list of pros and cons that you can consider my BFPirates 2 review:

Pros
Perfect alternative to BF2 vanilla – Want a break from the same old game? Grab this satisfying modification.

Easy to get involved – I found myself lost in the game early and was hard to quit.

Tons of eye candy – Bony skeletons, weapon reloading animations, boat rowing animations and realistic fires are just a fraction of cool sights to gaze upon.

Its fun! – I found myself actually having fun other than trying to get the high score. :)

Weapons – This really isn’t a run and gun type of mod. You fire, and then have to reload…I enjoyed the realism. Also, the grappling hook was a nice addition.

Lots of ear candy – The soundtrack, voices and sound effects really makes you fell like a pirate.

Attractive maps – The night maps are the best because of the creepy feel that you get from it…but there is something about being on a small island and seeing a huge castle-like building off in the endless waters.

Cons
Lack of Servers – This may have changed when I first played it, but I only found one populated server online!

Laggy – On some maps, I found it to be very laggy. This issue may be from my PC or the heavily populated server located on the other side of the world.

Voices – Although the voices are awesome, I really wish there was a way to make some of the voices sound distant other than seem like someone is right by you all the time.

Team killing – I don’t know…for some reason when I dropped on of the barrels, I blew away half of my team…I wish there was some way of them knowing that it was more obvious.

As you can see, there are not a lot of legit complaints from me and I will be back on to play some more. If you are tired of the same ol’ BF2, grab your free copy of Battlefield Pirates 2 and get on board!

Pumpkins Smash Martians

I decided to not go with the Alien Abduction theme this year. Although I had the space ship almost built and was in the middle of constructing the martians…I decided to go another route.

Here are the reasons why I changed my mind:
1 – My daughter gets nervous every time she looks at a martian.
2 – Very time consuming
3 – Could get costly
4 – Found something cooler!

The new theme is going to be based on the color orange and a ton of plastic pumpkins that I have collected. There will be one great pumpkin that is now standing at about 10 feet tall in my backyard. I have a bunch of orange lights and we will wear our pumpkin shirts to hand out candy this year.

The tests have been done by my daughter and she stamped her approval on the pumpkin theme.

Stay tuned for pics!

Alien Abduction Begins

Well, I finally made up my mind on what Halloween yard theme that I am going with this year. Since the baby is already scared of most masks, I didn’t want to freak her out with blood, guts and the scary things that I normally put out each year…so I think that the alien theme will be a little more kid friendly.

Following my handy dandy guide, I am going to size things down and make about 8 little green men in red cloaks. Last night, I found some dollar Frankenstein masks at Walmart that will work perfectly for their heads. I have already started working on the big buggy eyes and pushing the noses in to give them that green Martian look. The UFO will probably be the most tedious work but I have 2 umbrellas that will work perfectly with this.

Below is a rough sketch of what I had in mind. Along with some lights, fog machine, extra props and some spacey Halloween music…this may turn out to be pretty cool.

After a few days of trying to make up my mind, I spotted something on YouTube that helped me make a decision. Unfortunately I do not have 50 thousand dollars to buy the prop, but I can use the idea and inspiration. :)
